OK as im sure most of you viewers are aware as of late the amount of complaining over “registration” has increased somewhere in the region in 100 fold. Back a few months ago I cant remember very many people complaining about reg, now I can almost guarantee it is on any server I join. Why has there suddenly been this explosion? With the introduction of better detection techniques to prevent cheating and config exploiting mean people need to find another way of justifying their shortcomings? This is most definitely the answer in my opinion. What is registration? This is the logging of your bullets on the server, whether they hit or do not hit a target depending on your aim and luck. What can affect registration? The loss and choke levels u are experiencing, if u are getting a large amount of choke (small amounts do not usually effect your game) or a small amount of loss. As im sure you’re aware the CS system (and the internet in general) works on a packet switching network where data is split up into “packets” and sent along different routes through millions of nodes to the destination. What can cause loss and choke? If you’re say on dialup and using s circuit switching solution you will experience more static on the line and this could lead to increased corruption of data. Also the server itself, if it is not running with enough resources to construct the packets fast enough you will experience server lag and also corruption as the server moves onto another set on packets leaving some un-constructed. Now im also a player and am aware that sometimes you have 0 loss and 0 choke and it can feel like the server isn’t registering some of your shots. One of the solutions for this is that the server is using a bad set-up, this can either mean it’s config or it’s using too many add-ons that could be overloading it. /* * WARNING: If you have not entered the correct rcon_password * before running this script, you will be banned from the * server! */ alias rconwait "wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait;wait" rcon mp_autokick 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_autocrosshair 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_autoteambalance 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_buytime .25 ;rconwait rcon mp_consistency 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_c4timer 35 ;rconwait rcon mp_fadetoblack 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_flashlight 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_forcechasecam 2 ;rconwait rcon mp_forcecamera 2 ;rconwait rcon mp_footsteps 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_freezetime 10 ;rconwait rcon mp_friendlyfire 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_hostagepenalty 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_limitteams 6 ;rconwait rcon mp_logecho 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_logdetail 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_logfile 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_logmessages 1 ;rconwait rcon mp_maxrounds 12 ;rconwait rcon mp_playerid 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_roundtime 3 ;rconwait rcon mp_timelimit 0 ;rconwait rcon mp_tkpunish 0 ;rconwait rcon sv_aim 0 ;rconwait rcon sv_airaccelerate 10 ;rconwait rcon sv_airmove 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_allowdownload 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_allowupload 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_alltalk 0 ;rconwait rcon sv_proxies 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_cheats 0 ;rconwait rcon sv_clienttrace 1.0 ;rconwait rcon sv_clipmode 0 ;rconwait rcon sv_maxupdaterate "101" ;rconwait rcon sv_friction 4 ;rconwait rcon sv_gravity 800 ;rconwait rcon v_maxrate 25000 ;rconwait rcon sv_minrate 4000 ;rconwait rcon sv_maxspeed 320 ;rconwait rcon sv_send_logos 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_send_resources 1 ;rconwait rcon sv_stepsize 18 ;rconwait rcon sv_stopspeed 75 ;rconwait rcon sv_timeout 65 ;rconwait rcon allow_spectators 0 ;rconwait rcon decalfrequency 60 ;rconwait rcon edgefriction 2 ;rconwait rcon host_framerate 0 ;rconwait rcon log on ;rconwait rcon pausable 1 ;rconwait rcon say MaxRounds 12 Settings Loaded Above is my server set-up config that I execute before every game in order to ensure the best registration and performance possible. This is a highly demanding server set-up and would not recommend using it on a system where there are few free resources. Is there another reason for low registration? Some people must learn that the HL net code is not perfect, you will experience times where shots do not register for little reason, a good example is of an lpb vs hpb situation. It can seem sometimes that there is no way in the world any of your bullets are hitting the hpb but its not the server or his/her config or your own setup, its just half life being half life. Some people would argue that registration is also affected by chip architecture and that AMD is far superior to Intel for registration. I would say this is not true and that some people simply complain for the sake of complaining. If anyone else has any other reasons or possible solutions to the registration problem please reply as im planning to write up a detailed report with the massive amount of free time I will have over the summer. __________________
